Listening
to the
Beautiful
For All Those Born With Wings
ECM RECORDS AND ARTIST Music for the adult mind and eye
Its all way different for me,
To complete my adulthood, I had to break away from daily urban distraction.
Tho I love the sites, food.........I feel a little lost and lonely in the city,
The people being swept away in the "Our Team" delusion that popularity is
truth and blindly never questioning the authenticity of their own culture,
While demanding I join them or I am not " one of the guys".
But, I am not alone .......and I am with friends when close to nature,
I perfer my starbucks on a stump in a cathedral church of pines
with a few classic books and educated people of great compassion and wisdom.
ECM artist never get in the way of me reaching that goal, but they sure
help me stay there once I arrive.

I can't tell you how I hated, resented the idea, my publisher asking me to review a album of benedictine monks singing while a classical saxaphonist played slowly in the back ground, then half way thru the album, I had completely forgot my self and was drifting in the voices and started to cry, in my drifting, an old memory came to me, I remembered my mother showing me a small water fall as a child, it was like.......the most naturally beautiful experiance of my life.

As I became less a geographic narcissist, and more a authentic world person,
I could hear it in this music, there are hugely spiritual and graceful people all
over the world and by seeing this, I became more of one myself.

There is a crack in your proud and perfect offering

The city was below zero ice, I was just days away from giving birth, my friends showed up in a large SUV with tire chains all around to go to an opening, walking towards the art gallery, I saw thru the window glass large grey photo landscapes on the gallery walls, famious ECM album covers, my sister said - "it will be good for the baby too" then a man opened the gallery door and soft color rainbows of music splashed out on the ice like it had aways been there, but I was just now seeing and hearing it. later the doorman asked if i liked the music, I said the musician sounded like a very kind person, putting his hand over his heart, he said back to me "Oh God, after all I have been through,....... I hope I am at the very least that"

I was listening to John Surmans "Saltash Bells Album" there was the soft sounds of Water, Winter birds, Water Buoy Bells, Tug Boats gently sounding their horns melodicly in the night, and angelic notes from John Surmans slow as clouds magic Clarinet, bringing all these sounds together in calm Folk/Jazz, I realized, this is what he heard as a child, this is how he learned to play the Clarinet, the ocean Dam Tug Boats taught him, as the water pushed aganst the "Saltash" water dam, in Cornwall England with water falls splashing the lake below, tug boats above blowing their horns softly thru the fog, outside his window as he slept in the night.

The above quotes were taken from Comments and Reviews from all over the
World wide web about the ECM music experiance and the free art
community that suspports it .
Without ever looking "Dark or Evil" the majority of their album Art covers are in glorious "Black and White"
To be invited to join the ECM lable is one of the highest musical honors in the world and the recording quality is heavenly.
Most all the artist's have joyfully broken ties with anything commercial, mainstream and popular, so as to better create their work and become more empathic souls to their music and their loved ones.
Many of these artist are deeply religious, from all faiths of the world with never an argument between them as they play and inter change thru 60 to 70 different orchestra's, choir's, ensemble's, trio's, duo's.
We highly suggest anyone wanting to get off the mass marketing Corpritized play ground music loop, and take a walk in a un-molested world of mature Music and Natural Art, take a life saving and life long look and listen to:
Eberhard Webbers " Endless Days"
Ralph Towner's " Diary" or "Anthem"
Charles LLoyd's " The Water Is Wide" or "Cantos"
Anouar Brahems " The Astounding Eye's of Rita"
Kenny Wheeler's " Angel Song"
But first you must throw your TV and Radio out, turn the phone off, find a good chair, maybe even light a candle ,,,,,,,tho its still daylight,
So your in the same space as the artist.
We recommend you always hear an ECM album before you buy it, With over 1400 albums in CD and Vinyl Record print, from Folk Jazz to Classical Harp, Violoncello or Choirs from all around the world, they cover almost every music in the world, which is sometimes too wide a taste for any one person.
